Day 8
After the feedback I got yesterday, I have had a massive focus on making sure I am properly teaching the player all the mechanics through 'Teach train test'. I even have a grid!
The biggest thing I need to teach is the Asterix command, which is quite difficult to explain but easy to use. I don't want to have text explaining mechanics, but diagrams. This should help accessibility, which is a key goal in everything I make. But even so, that's easier said than done.
The new Level 5 is the hardest level I have made so far. The solution without the star is easy enough if you understand stacking, but getting the star is very difficult. My first version of the level was very similar, but was impossible, but the thrill of getting so close to the solution is something I needed to keep. So I tried to change it as little as possible.
Level design sucks. It takes time, which for once I actually have but I still hate it. I have a few ideas ready to go, its just whether they are good enough to be put in the game. I want at least 20 levels before I get any more tests, which is 8 more. God help me.
I also want all UI sprites before next play tests, Tiles are less important right now.
I also need to be way more active on git...
TLDR:
-Asterix is complicated
-Level design sux
For tomorrow:
-Keep grinding out levels
-Stop finding new bugs
