Initial idea

Inspired by the black mirror episode '15 million credits', I want to develop or demonstrate a vision of what Advertisements could become with further reliance on virtual reality devices. Social media is becoming increasingly reliant on ads, with even Netflix now beginning to implement them in its platform.

In the references episode of black mirror, a specific scene highlights this dystopian worldview. The main character 'Bing' is in his room, which is covered in screens. While these screens are displaying ads, he attempts to look away. The ad pauses and he is instructed to continue watching, with loud noises and bright lights aggressively prompting him to do so.

With the progression of invasive advertising through data sharing, the data of what you are looking at through the use of VR could be used against you in advertising. Along with the device's potential complete control over what you are looking at, it could either force you to engage with the ad or punish you for refusing.

The idea for this project is to represent that future in some way. I will be showing my documenting technical aspects on the Github page, and conceptual aspects and progress updates here.
