101 days

With it now being 101 days since the initial release of Robo-E.R.T. I wanted to look back at its development. This project is so close to my heart, I feel it is the best thing I have ever developed. While it didn't get very much attention, all the attention it did receive was positive. The project was very effective at reconciling everything I had learned in the year leading up to it and proving that I have potential in this industry.

If I could go back, I would not change much of the content of the game. I am very proud of the mechanics and levels I created in the short time frame I was given. While it was unfortunate I didn't take the time to include sound effects and music in the initial release, I made up for this shortcoming in the post-Jam release a week later.

However, what I feel the game does lack is accessibility. There was no language, font, or colour blind options made available. While this is understandable given the time frame of the initial release, I should have taken time to include at the very least text size and font options. This is especially important when you consider progression could be locked behind understanding the text on screen (for understanding the controls).

With how important I feel representation and accessibility for the future of game development, I am disappointed I didn't take the time to make some small changes.

I also feel that the style of the game was not as consistent as I would have liked, the empty industrial aesthetic of the building sometimes conflicted with the objects and platforms inside of them. While this isn't a huge issue, it is worth noting for the future.
